Deux campagnes de prospections au Y??men: 1992 ??? 1993

The surveys carried out by the French Archaeological Mission in Jawf-???a???ramawt in 1992 and 1993 aimed to set up research programmes on specific themes, some of which have been carried out on the prehistory and the protohistory along the palaeo-river Jawf-???a???ramawt. Today, the documentation that had been collected by the members of the mission and kept in the archives, despite the very informal state of the data, constitutes a unique primary source of documentation. The security situation of the country, the modern cultivation of the ancient irrigated fields, the extension of housing over the last 30 years, have significantly changed the territories explored. The documentation gathered brings new elements to the archaeological map of Yemen, for the regions of al-??Abr, w??d?? Markha, Shabwa, and the western part of the w??d?? ???a???ramawt, from Bi??r ???amad to w??d?? Sar. Prehistoric sites are mapped, as well as many megalithic funerary monuments, some domestic sites could be identified as Bronze Age and some sites from the southarabian period show unprecedented characteristics. The inventory of the sites is completed by a study of the discovered inscriptions, and the presentation of a statue???menhir shown to members of the mission in 1996 in the coastal region of Balh??f.

Les prospections men??es par la Mission arch??ologique fran??aise dans le Jawf-???a???ramawt en 1992 et 1993 avaient pour finalit?? de mettre en place des programmes de recherche sur des th??matiques sp??cifiques, dont certains ont pu ??tre men??s, en particulier sur la pr??histoire et la protohistoire du pal??o-cours Jawf-???a???ramawt. La situation s??curitaire du pays, la remise en culture de grandes ??tendues des territoires agricoles antiques, l???extension de l???habitat au cours des 30 derni??res ann??es, ont consid??rablement boulevers?? les secteurs explor??s. Cette documentation apporte de nouveaux ??l??ments ?? la carte arch??ologique du Y??men, pour les r??gions d???al-??Abr, du w??d?? Markha, de Shabwa, et la partie occidentale du w??d?? ???a???ramawt de Bi??r ???amad au w??d?? Sar. Des sites pr??historiques ont ??t?? cartographi??s, ainsi que de nombreux monuments fun??raires m??galithiques, des habitats ont ??t?? identifi??s comme pouvant remonter ?? l?????ge du Bronze et certains sites de la p??riode sudarabique pr??sentent des caract??ristiques qui n???ont pas d?????quivalent dans les inventaires connus. L???inventaire des sites est compl??t?? par une ??tude des inscriptions d??couvertes et la pr??sentation d???une statue???menhir montr??e ?? des membres de la mission en 1996 dans la r??gion littorale de Balh??f.
